Our Team is about helping to secure the success stories of all those involved, our experienced team of marine surveyors offering a wide range of services to a variety of parties and stakeholders within the commercial marine industry.

We pride ourselves with fact-based, comprehensive, and thoroughly put together survey reports ranging from consultancy, surveying and loss prevention to loss mitigation and claims handling.

We have acted on behalf of cargo owners, underwriters, brokers, ship owners, charterers, P&I clubs, shippers and receivers, trusting us in protecting their position and relying on our ability to act fast wherever and whenever you need it. Our Company offers a Personal Indemnity Insurance which is substantial – held through Lloyds in the UK.

01 Marine Consultants & P & I Surveys:

We act as marine consultants for various companies that export through the port of Saldanha Bay. We also provide an “add-on” service - stockpiling management for clients wishing to use a one-stop shop for their entire logistics chain. We perform regular various surveys for our local P & I (Protection & Indemnity) association in our area on behalf of their members

02 Damage Surveys:

Assess the damage, loss, and contamination of cargo/gear/ship and then investigation into the extent and cause of the damage. Recommendations and prevention going forward most times needed for reports.

03 Pre-Loading and Outturn Surveys:

Pre-loading / Out-turn Cargo Survey in most contracts of carriage, the shipowner’s responsibilities begin at the time of loading, and it is, therefore, important to inspect the cargo at this stage. Pre-shipment inspection of cargo is undertaken to determine and document the condition of the cargo at this time.

04 Draft Survey Boat Service:

Bay Marine Surveying has run a launch service for the last 10 years to ascertain accurate draft surveys on board vessels at the port.
Our surveyors are all qualified to skipper the boat and have qualifications obtained through SAMSA (South African Maritime Safety Authority)

Draft & Deadweight Surveys

A draft survey is the “before and after” survey, which determines by measurement, the vessel’s displacement before and after loading or discharging. The difference between these two displacements is the weight of cargo loaded or discharged.

Hatch Cover / Hold Condition
and Cleanliness Surveys

The holds cleanliness condition survey is conducted to ensure the cargo holds condition before loading, ascertaining whether the holds are ready to load the nominated cargo or not. Most of times, our attendance for holds cleanliness survey is requested by the shippers.

Condition Surveys

A vessel condition survey is a statement of fact. Bay Marine Surveyors and inspectors report on the condition of a particular vessel’s hull, holds, fittings and machinery, and other equipment condition at the given time of the inspection.

Bunker Surveys

Bunker Survey is carried out mostly by visual observation, facts finding, about the general data and idea, by measurements, technical matters, etc. and, if needed, provide recommendation. Bunker survey is carried out to measure and ascertain the quantity of Bunker (Fuel & Diesel) on board at the specific time.

Flag State and
Overage Surveys

FlagState Inspections are carried out and include verification of statutory documentation and a general examination of the vessel’s structure, machinery, and equipment as well as a more thorough inspection and/or operational testing of firefighting equipment, lifesaving appliances and safety equipment.
